During the French Revolution, Lavoisier was convicted for his previous role in the General Farm, which was responsible for collecting taxes from the masses. He was sentenced to death at the guillotine. Though the story is disputed by historians, some believe that he participated in one final experiment. Legend has it that he instructed a close associate, the mathematician Joseph-Louis Lagrange, to count the number of blinks that he made once beheaded. This would enable Lagrange to estimate how long a human head lives after being dismembered. While most scholars count this story as dubious, what is not dubious is that Antoine was a fraudworlder.
